WAP Emulation Software

WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)

WAP sites are effectively lists and menus used as pointers to information you require, WAP Phones are simply Mobile phones with additional networking capabilities. The main constraints lie with the restrictive displays used. Unlike the PC , te WAP Phone has little or no storage capacity, can only handle small quantities of data at a time, and only accepts information at 9.6K /sec as opposed to the average PC's 56K /sec (which is 17 % of the PCs speed).

To get round these disadvantages, the WAP phones don't display graphics and the sites only offer text. Typically this is menus and scrollable lists form which you choose an option and an information list will be displayed.

WAP Phone uses can include sending and receiving email, accessing news, weather, schedules, financial data and the like; all in a mobile environment (like in the middle of a field) - an advantage the PC can never truly emulate.

Numerous sites other then the portal services available with the phones can be accessed simple by keying in their address (check out the See-WAP index).

How to see what they offer before parting with your money!

It's sound advice to check things out before you buy. As WAP sites can't be viewed by the standard internet web browser (IE or Netscape) therefore we have provided an alternative for you to use. The WAP emulator accesses WAP sites and displays the information as the WAP device would present it to the phone. Most of these sites can be identified by the ".wml" file extension to indicate it has been specifically written for the WAP environment.  However, it most also be pointed out that WAP code can be embedded into an existing Web Page (HTML code), giving little indication other than a vague inferrence in the address that it can be viewed in this manner.

Download the WAP emulator and try some sites. This allows you to see them as the WAP would display it far cheaper and much quicker by utilising your PCs advantage of speed with cheaper connection tariffs.
